Cut Your Scope 3 Emissions with Your Customers and Suppliers

Set up customer-supplier partnerships to reduce your Scope 3 emissions

Most of your emissions sit outside your own operations. Supply chain emissions average 26 times a company’s operational emissions, yet you have little influence over your suppliers’ investment decisions, and decarbonization competes with the core business for capital. Transition plans now need funded projects and independently assured evidence, not only targets.

Faster, and far less capital, than the market

Leading customer-supplier partnerships have taken 32 to 42 months to start working and committed up to 2.5% of revenue up front, every year. Your Corporate Venture delivers value from month 5, your quarterly value is modelled to exceed your fees from the third quarter, and up-front fees are about 0.06% of revenue for a $10 - $25B company, 0.04% for $25 - $100B and 0.01% for $100B+.

How your Corporate Venture helps

  • Partnerships that cut Scope 3. Your Venture builds linked partnerships with your major suppliers and customers. Scope 3 emissions are one of eleven value streams measured in every partnership.
  • Independently assured evidence. An independent firm assures the value created in each partnership every quarter, giving you measured results to report.
  • Clean technology without capital. Through its Technologies and Innovation work, the Venture finds, finances and deploys clean technologies with external capital, paid from measured benefit.
  • Joint projects with suppliers. Decarbonization projects that neither side would fund alone are financed externally and shared.

Working with your C-suite

Sustainability gains are strongest when they are also commercial gains. Your Venture works with your Chief Procurement Officer on supplier partnerships, your Chief Commercial Officer on customer partnerships and your Chief Technology Officer on clean technology, so emission cuts arrive alongside lower costs, higher quality and new products rather than competing with them.

From Scoping to assured results

  1. Weeks 1 to 4, Scoping. Your Scoping Proposal sets emission and value baselines for your priority suppliers, customers and sites.
  2. 2. By month 4, commitment. INNOVO begins building the Venture, and priority suppliers and customers are invited to form linked Ventures.
  3. 3. From month 5, delivery. Joint projects and clean technologies are financed externally and deployed.
  4. Every quarter. Results are measured and independently assured, ready for your sustainability reporting.

For heavy emitters

Where your operations or suppliers include heavy industrial emitters, your Venture can also open the way to INNOVO’s Smoke2Value bio-farms, which turn industrial CO₂ into products, including feedstock for sustainable aviation fuel. Read more

What you pay

Scoping fees and initial set-up fees are about 5% of the Venture’s costs for the first 3 years and about 1.3% of the value it expects to add in Year 3. Apart from technology search retainers and your half of the independent assurance fee, which you share with your partner, every later fee is paid from measured value created. Figures are modelled outcomes for a $10 - $25B Corporate Partner, not results achieved.
